Friday Night at Home

reading: Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub

Big Brother 7I’m still not entirely well in my chest. My coughing frequency is down, but it’s quite a noise when I let one loose. There is still plenty of congestion in the chest. My energy level comes and goes. I would love nothing more than to be at the St. Joseph Bears and Niles Vikings homecoming game tonight, but it is just best that I stay at home and rest a bit. Hate it, but it has to be done.

----------

We plan on resting a bit this weekend. There are no soccer games tomorrow, so hopefully the kids will be able to enjoy the waning days of warm weather. If I could ever find my Stephen King/Peter Straub book, I could read it outside. I would love to have another bonfire in the pit and grill some dinner tomorrow. That would be a great way to take advantage of warm weather.

Dylan scored two goals last night in a 3-2 loss to a Dowagiac team. I missed his goals because Katelyn’s game was going on at the same time. However, I got to see his two goals in the game previous to this one. He was jazzed about scoring, and it took away some of the sting of the loss.

Katelyn’s skills and attention span have really improved over last season. We are really proud of her. We keep telling her to “kick and chase, kick and chase.” The message is starting to click with her. She is putting more emphasis on dribbling the soccer ball than just kicking it and watching it go. I have to keep it all in perspective: she is six years old and a first grader. How she performs now is not indicative to how she will perform in the future. She will come along, she will find her own way, and she will find her niche.

I just want my kids to make the most of their skills and opportunities. These years are short! I last was an athlete in 1987, which was more than a lifetime ago.

----------

Heather just discovered some fun color settings on her camera, so she has been doing a lot of experimenting since last night. She’s really excited about the new possibilities. Stroll on over to Facebook, and check it out.

We were at Silver Beach just tonight doing some photography. I was surprised at just how many people were there, and how many people with kids were there. It was a really pleasant night with a gentle breeze coming off Lake Michigan.

Daddy Was Sick

reading: Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub

CSI: NYIf it were not for CSI: NY marathons on Spike TV, I just might have gnawed my arm off yesterday.

I am still recovering from a cold that started to creep up on me Friday. I stayed home from work yesterday trying to rest my body. Even today I still had some wheezing, phelgmy coughing, and a little weakness. Yesterday, I was sweating badly, and did not have a lot of energy. I was simply miserable on Sunday, and did little more than sit around inside and outside.

After I got up for good around 8:30 yesterday, I logged into work e-mail, and watched Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN 2. After they went off at 10 AM, I had to watch something other than ESPN First Take; the hosts are little more than screaming heads. When I was sick so much early this year and last Thanksgiving, I watched a lot of Crossing Jordan and CSI: Miami on A&E. However, Spike TV is in the middle of some sort of CSI: NY marathon, and I was simply in luck. The TV stayed on the same station until Katelyn got home from school.

A Little Weekend Update

listening to: Army Wives on Lifetime
reading: Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub

We have a new jungle gym at home! Heather got it at work for free. We brought it home last weekend and unloaded it in the flood that was Hurricane Ike. We put it together last week, power washed it yesterday, and Heather and Dylan stained it today. It really looks great, and the pictures below do not do it justice anymore.

Katelyn is really happy, and now she has something else outside to keep her busy while the weather is still nice. I have a Facebook with tons more pictures you can see.

I was a witness, per se, to history on Friday night. I listened to the St Joseph – Battle Creek Central varsity football game. St. Joseph set a school record for points in a game, and senior Drake Smith set a school record with 6 touchdowns.

We had a small bonfire on Friday night, and it was a relaxing counter to the excitement of the football game.

We also had a bonfire tonight after Heather and Dylan stained the jungle gym. We even cooked some hot dogs.
