Thursday Night Random Notes

reading: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

Katelyn’s first soccer game was this past Tuesday, but it was our turn to work the concessions stand. We are "volunteers", as it were. I missed the game, but Heather said that she had some strong kicks. So, I will get to see her this Saturday for the first time.

I spent some time last night cleaning up the yard. Our current bonfire pile is so big, I hated to add to it. I have a secondary pile building, but I might add it to the primary pile if it burns quickly . . . that is, whenever we get around to burning it. The summer was dry and windy, so we were always afraid to light it up. This pile has been sitting around for the better part of six to nine months, so it should go up very easily.

I had been behind in updating my Facebook photo albums page, so I worked on that tonight. Here you go.

I have a few random notes from tonight’s Bible Study:

I last played golf in 1990. I don’t remember why this came up.

We need ringtones for our coffeemaker. When it is done brewing, it spittles and sputters on the remaining vapor water in the tube. We thought that sound was just an inadequate manner in this high-tech world to announce that the coffee is done.

We cannot wait to get to Heaven to see just how wrong we are about what we think it will be like. No, I am not implying the Bible is wrong, I am just saying that we all have our own vision of what it will be like. How accurate will we be, if at all?

Monday Night Peek at Spring

I only got a taste of the outdoors tonight, but we spent a bit of time outdoors tonight starting the yard-cleaning process. I cut up the dormant poison plants in the bushes – these are the same poison plants that mangled my face and wrist a couple of years ago.

There are a lot of branches and sticks that need to be moved to our massive burn pile in the back field. I am surprised to see how many branches had been cut down last year, and did not make the pile. Lots of work to be done.

Katelyn’s soccer game from last Saturday was cancelled due to terrible weather, so hopefully tomorrow’s will go through as planned. She was really disappointed this past Saturday, but understood that the weather was beyond our control.

Salt and Light of the Earth

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:13-16

I received an excellent affirmation and exhortation this morning in church. The sermon was about being the salt and light in the world. What kind of an example do we set for those around us? Do we let the world know where we stand with God by our actions, or are we telling the world that we are just part of the mainstream?

We need to remember that we are ambassadors of our God in the work place, at the grocery store, and even in the home.
