06/23/2008: "Pennsylvania Vacation, Day Eight, June 6, 2008"
This would be our final full day in Pennsylvania. I wanted to summit the hill again and get more pictures of the Rock City. It's going to be a long time before I can hike like this again, so I wanted to make the most of it.
Katelyn and I woke up early, and had a quiet breakfast while Heather and Dylan slept in. Our hike up the hill was pretty uneventful, yet exhilarating. We talked and chatted and just did Daddy/Katelyn stuff. When we got to Rock City, the pictures speak for themselves.
We spent the rest of our day cleaning up and just driving around looking at sights.
On Saturday, it was time to say goodbye. We did our final cleanups, packed up the van, and left by noon to go home. We stopped for a late lunch at Quaker Steak and Lube again, and then went the rest of the way home. My poison ivy, which had appeared that morning, was pretty fierce by the time it was bedtime Saturday night, and I had an extremely unpleasant Sunday with a swollen eye, and painful, itchy rashes. Well, everyone has to have one bad vacation story, right?
It was a wonderful week that was a long time coming, but went far too quickly, despite the fun and novelty of it all. We are looking forward to going back again next year.
As I write this, we have been back for two full weeks now, and I still feel the relief and freshness of getting away. We have had plenty of hustle and bustle here at home and at work since we returned, but there is still something of a peace in me that came from the deep woods of Pennsylvania.
