01/18/2008: "Friday Night Random Notes"

Did I tell you what my wonderful wife did for me on my thirty-ninth birthday last Thursday? She cooked chicken and dumplings with biscuits and corn. We then had our traditional January 10th dessert of apple crisp a la mode. This birthday was extra special because it was our Thursday Night Bible Study night, and my friends got to share in all this.

How many of you remember Tony Rice, the Notre Dame quarterback from 1987 to 1989? A co-worker of mine moonlights as a server at a local restaurant, and she served him dinner Wednesday night. I remember him playing against Purdue. I think I might have pictures of him as well on the sidelines. I will see if I can dig them up.

When I was out sick with viral bronchitis for so long, I would watch Star Trek: Voyager with Katelyn late in the afternoons. She would call it the “Spaceship Show.” What was remarkable was her ability to recognize it right off the bat. She does not know The Next Generation from Deep Space Nine from Voyager, but she certainly senses a science fiction aura about the shows.

I seem to have adjusted well to a return to normalcy in my life. I have come to realize that I look forward to the first full week of January each year. The holidays and interruptions are over, and routine is the norm, not the exception.

I have new glasses! After nearly three years, I have a new pair. It is odd having lenses that are scratch-free.

If you ever wondered if there was more to the begating we often read in the Bible, take a look at this page: Reasons To Believe: The Genesis Genealogies. Everything you ever wanted to know about Biblical genealogies. You will be surprised to learn about telescoped genealogies, and why the genealogies listed in the Bible seemingly have contradictions in them . . . I’m not speaking of the two lineages in the New Testament that take different directions to Christ, I’m talking about the Hebrews words that describe relationships between men and their ancestors. Or in this case the lack of Hebrew words.
