01/10/2008: "A Revelation About Revelation"
I saw a gold menorah
with seven branches,
And in the center, the Son of Man,
in a robe and gold breastplate,
hair a blizzard of white,
Eyes pouring fire-blaze,
both feet furnace-fired bronze,
His voice a cataract,
right hand holding the Seven Stars,
His mouth a sharp-biting sword,
his face a perigee sun.
From Revelation, Chapter One, The Message
We speak so much of Christ’s humanity and saving grace, that we often overlook the more complicated and powerful side of his deity. The blood of this Man-God is our salvation, should we accept it. Just stay aware of the other power and respect He commands.
This was the major point I learned tonight in our weekly Bible study. We have just finished Chapter One.
Oh, I almost forgot, here is my secondary learning point: the Apostle John exhorts us to read, hear and obey what we read in Revelation, and tells us that the time is short. Instead of trying to pry open the head of God and figure out what His prophecies mean, we should take a more childlike approach and understand the meaning of the overall story of Christ’s final victory over sin. The oddness and creepiness of the story yet to come is to be taken for granted, and we are to understand that John was not perfectly describing what he was shown . . . he merely did the best he could to explain the unexplainable.
