Dylan’s soccer team came up against a buzzsaw of a Bridgeman team tonight, and lost 4-0. I’ve honestly never seen such a good team. They played longball! Their midfielders were able to create fast breaks with the forwards and strikers by booting long passes over the defenders. Defensively, they were smothering. I think their goalie only had to handle the ball twice, and that was in the fourth quarter. They always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. It gave me an appreciation for how soccer should be played.
In St. Joseph AYSO, the kids like to boot the ball downfield, and whomever gets it, gets it. This Bridgeman team had purpose in booting the ball, and were often able to pass it down the field quickly. There was careful planning in what they did. Plus, the kids were simply good technical ball players. I saw a lot of creative dribbling and ball control.
So, I am hoping that Dylan was able to learn some lessons from having to battle this team. I know I learned something!
