03/09/2007: "Back to Books"

listening to: FM 90.7 -- Andrews University -- Classical

After work, Heather and Katelyn picked me up for a little bit of time on the town tonight. While Heather had her nails done at the mall, Katelyn and I spent some time running around and looking at everything. I don’t get to go to the mall that often, so it’s always a treat to have some different stimuli.

I spent my usual time going through book stores and CD stores building up my latest wish lists. I used to have a large collection of books, and I miss them sometimes! Before we moved to Michigan, my books could fill two bookshelves as tall as myself.

The mall put in a toy railroad that you can activate for twenty-five cents per minute. Katelyn and I watched the little miniature Amtrak train go around a few times. She recognized the toy Amtrak as the train that passes our own house twice per day.

There is a discount bookstore at the mall that specializes in not-so best sellers and surplus items. Today they had a Buy One Get One Free sale, and it was simply too much for me to pass up. Discounted books, two for one? I could not pass it up.

I picked up two science fiction short story anthologies: Northern Stars and Northern Suns, both compilations of Canadian-based writers. Two sizeable books for just over $3 total!

Are these the start of a brand new collection? A lot depends upon Heather being able to keep me away from used book stores. If there are any in the area, I would like to check them out.

Correction: "Jacks paperbacks" is on James Dr; not on Joni

Pry open the vault, Heather. Daddy's going shopping.

Well, maybe just a little. Maybe I will just go look.

"Jacks paperbacks", On Joni rd., off John Beers, west of Cleveland (it runs parallel with Cleveland).
"The Book Rack", on the corner of Red Arrow Hwy. and Sawyer Rd. in Sawyer.
