It’s been a long time since I wrote an actual entry about life. It’s been busy enough that I have not been able to write much. Well, it’s early tonight, Heather and I are relaxing, and the kids are either asleep or busy in their rooms. So, I have an opportunity to share a bit.
I was able to breathe a little bit at work on Thursday and Friday and only work eight-hour days. For a couple of weeks, I had been putting in some long hours, and been in some stressy meetings preparing for a large project. So, it was nice to be able to focus on other issues, and actually work on some proverbial rainy day items.
Heather has been getting geared up for her summer trip to Ecuador. She’s been planning fundraisers, and has been working on some craft and teaching ideas for the kids. She’s getting more and more fired up as the days go by, and she is seeing more and more of God’s hand in all this.
We had a mini-date night this past Wednesday night. We dropped the kids off at church for AWANA and youth group, and had dinner at Bob Evans. Normally, if we go there, it’s on a Saturday or Sunday, so the place is packed. This Wednesday was fairly quiet and deserted. We had our section to ourselves.
Our driveway has been icing up pretty badly at the point where it meets our road. Dylan and I went out between church services and tried to remove the inches of ice that make a shelf the van has to drive upon. We managed to remove several feet of it, and it’s rather bumpy, but it’s a start. Should we get more significant accumulation of snow, we won’t have this giant mound of frozen muck to drive over.
Dylan’s family drove up from Indiana yesterday and spent hours playing paintball in Benton Harbor. The youth group joined them late in the afternoon, and I heard they had a great time. Dylan has a few paintball bruises, but nothing too permanent. He does not really seem to be worn out. If only I could be so lucky if I were to play someday.
While Dylan was paintballing, the three of us went to the library for a day of reading and play. Heather was researching Ecuador, Katelyn played with books and puppets, and I read my new book. Well, I spent some time reading to Katelyn as well.
Have you see the Disney/Pixar movie Cars? We watched it Friday night, and I thought it was a really great show. I liked it better than Finding Nemo and Shark Tale . . . and I thought those were pretty awesome movies as well.
Did I tell you that I was elected to the Board of Trustees at church? We have our first meeting on Tuesday night. I have already been counting offering for two weeks. Being a trustee is yet another neat way God is revealing to me that I can serve His church. I’ll be learning a lot more about the actual business of running a church. The bills have to be paid and the building has to be maintained.
